The answer to the lightswitch quiz is rather simple when you think about it.
What you do is you turn on the first switch, and leave it on for about five minutes. Then you turn it off and turn on the second switch and go upstairs.
When you get upstairs one light will be on (second switch) and two will be off. Since lightbulbs heat up when they're on for a while, one of the bulbs that are off, will be hot. That one is controlled by the first switch. The bulb that is cold and off, will be controlled by the third switch.
